moving stuff

February 10th, 2009

We’ve been going back and forth our current place and the new rental, cleaning and bringing small stuff. We’re also doing a more detailed inspection for the current condition report to give the rental agency. Last weekend, while at the new place we left the garage door remote in the car and so had to resort to knocking on a neighbors door to ask their help to open the doors to the garage as the keys we were given weren’t working. Good thing it was still early so our neighbor was still up otherwise we wouldn’t know what we would have done. Some of the light bulbs in the house were busted so we have to have those replaced and probably buy an emergency light too.  Now, if I can only finish the packing by Thursday so we’ll be all set for the move this weekend.

rental blues

Last Tuesday as we were headed out to pick up my SIL at the airport, I got our mail from the letterbox and what do I find? A letter from the real estate company informing us that our unit has been sold and the we need to be out in a month’s time. Waaahh!! Super short notice. Had we known this would happen the first month of 2009 then I think we would have looked for a new place before our lease was up last year.  Anyways, we are off to inspections tomorrow and hopefully finish early to still push through with taking SIL to Canberra. Oh and to add more, we were late in picking SIL up as the M5 was closed for roadworks and the stupid GPS kept rerouting us back to M5. After two tries I had to get the map and figure out how to get to the airport, where SIL was already contemplating on taking a cab to our place, hehe. Wish us luck with the house hunting.

housing

One of the differences in rentals here and in Singapore was that most if not all rentals here in Oz is unfurnished. Though there are unfurnished units/houses for rent in SG but more often you can get units furnished. During the years that we were there we never had to buy our own furnitures which made the whole thing easier on the pockets. Coming here we knew that we had to furnish the unit. So after securing us a house, ichi made rounds of the different stores. A lot of what he saw were modern furnitures. It wasn’t easy to decide especially if you consider the budget and the numerous styles available.

Nicholas Sparks is one of my favorite authors, I just love his books. The first one that I read was The Notebook and I was hooked. One of my favorite movies is A Walk To Remember, I think I’ve watched it more than 5 times already. His books are always set in North Carolina and from the web or the movies or tv shows that film there, it always seems like a nice place to go to. Good thing there are websites for outer banks rentals that you could browse to check out accomodations if you plan to vacation there.
