safety
One of the things that I’ve noticed here is that they really do have safety measures and guidelines when it comes to work safety. On a number of occasion we’ve had handymen come and fix something in the house and the first time around we’ve asked that they take their shoes off so that they won’t dirty the carpet (don’t want to spend money to have it professionally cleaned for turnovers hehe). Some obliged but only to cross the carpeted areas but they have to put on their shoes back when working, safety rules. So the next time around didn’t even bother to ask. I would think that back in Manila, even to this day those kinds of safety precautions (like wearing safety glasses on tasks that required them) would still be just casually implemented.

Hi Mich, you can buy an outer slip on plastic covering for their shoes. they don’t have to remove their shoes anymore.
Even here in china we strictly implement work safety precautions because it really cost a lot if workers get injured during work. Sadly, China’s labor laws are better than the Philippines.
