While browsing facebook, there were a lot of recent posts on wedding and engagement pictures. Ichi commented that it’s still widely practiced within the Chinese community in Manila, the customary tinghun (engagement). Where one has to prepare lots of stuff as gifts for the couple and to each other’s family. There is also an accompanying tea ceremony. I remember that moms usually try to collect loose diamonds over the years in preparation for the engagement (either for a jewelry set or for the couple’s wedding rings). I think both Ichi and I are in agreement that we won’t be doing that for our kids.
