cakes

August 7th, 2011

I came across cake pops while browsing for cupcake suppliers. They are so cute and I am also in awe with the design ideas that people come up with. Makes me believe that maybe I can do some too haha. Me without a baking or cooking bone in my body. I wonder if I can do some for either sab’s or E’s birthday. I saw some recipes that made do with premixed cake mix as base and used cake pop moulds, maybe that would be easier or maybe just have some brownie pops delivered instead.

insured

August 2nd, 2011

These days there are lots of commercials about different types of insurances on tv. There are even ads on websites that give you quick comparisons of insurance quotes that you need. Aside from life insurance quotes, there’s even an ad on now about insurance for stay at home moms, or income insurance and health insurance. You can pretty much be insured for anything that you want.

riding

July 28th, 2011

One of the things that we want little boy to learn is how to ride a bike. So far, he knows how to with training wheels. I think he needs to practice a bit more and soon try to get those training wheels off. Might be time to bring him to the park to try and practice. Oh and when it’s time for the little girl to learn how to ride a bike that it might be time to buy thule bike racks to be able to bring all the bikes to the park

house hunting

July 28th, 2011

Aside from the wedding itself, I’m sure our brothers are already thinking of after the wedding. Things like where they will live and start their married life. My brother-in-law would most likely continue living overseas but I’m still not sure if they will move into their own flat or continue living with their flatmates. Same goes for my brother. So if and when they do decide on their own flat or house then they would most probably start furnishing them as well. It’s a good thing there are a lot of furnishings (adirondack furniture anyone?) available from low-cost to real fancy ones. It would enable them to be within budget.

French Day

July 15th, 2011

The senior class (that’s yr6) last year at E’s school, gifted the school with a screen projector (much like da lite screens) for the school hall. It has been very useful for the different events that the school has been celebrating like the recent French national day. This year instead of Mandarin they have been learning French and in line with that they decided to celebrate French National Day during the last day of Term2. It was really nice to see the kids speak and sing in French.

mid-year

July 15th, 2011

Wow! Time surely flies, I can’t believe it’s a little more than halfway through the year. Where did the past months go! We’re currently down to the last days of the winter school holiday and we’ll be back to the regular grind of drop-offs, pickups and homework next week. In 4 mos time, little girl will be turning 2! I wonder how we’ll celebrate this year. I’m hoping we can do a quick getaway like last year to celebrate not only little girl’s birthday but our 10th wedding anniversary as well. Hmm .. time to browse the different websites and check out if there are any promos. Pretty soon as well, it will be Christmas and there are a lot of toy sales and it is pretty tempting to lay-by a lot of the stuff for Christmas gifts. I also saw some promos for personalized kids gifts and I think these would make nice gifts especially to kids of schooling age. And I bet that would be appreciated by parents as well. Lots of planning to do.

down the aisle

The main reason we are going home to Manila albeit only a vacation is for my BIL’s wedding. They have set a date and have booked the church and reception venue. I think now they are on the hunt for the photographer and videographer. I still don’t know of they already picked out a theme. There definitely are a lot more things to be ticked off the preps list but i think most of it will be done by next year as it comes closer to the date. One of the items on my BIL & his fiancee’s things to do for the wedding is find a good florist. There are a lot of good ones out there that can do custom flowers but I heard there is also an alternative being done for wedding bouquets and that is food. I saw some photos and they do look gorgeous just like a floral bouquet would. I wonder what they will go with. It definitely would be something if they will go for newer trends. I do wish them the best not just on the marriagw but also in finding great suppliers for the wedding so they’ll not end up with headaches on the wedding day and just enjoy the celebration.

parcel of land

The real estate market here is slowing down a little. Although the interest rates have been on hold for a number of months now, the rising costs have definitely made buyers think twice about investing their money and taking that mortgage. Some I heard have defaulted on their motgages and are being left with no option other than to sell. I wonder if the US housing market has already bounced back? I saw some listings on Branson real estate the other day and there were a few houses that were really nice. They do say that now is the better time to buy if yiu have the finances that is.

new start

June 25th, 2011

Our friend who’s working overseas as a nurse recently started in a new hospital after i think 6 years. It’s even in a different city. A few weeks ago, she replaced her old car and also had to pack up her stuff for the move. Good thing she was able to have friends help her with physical move. So far she is enjoying the new job. She did get new nursing scrubs for the new hospital. Good luck my dear!

keeping safe

There have been recent features on the different magazine shows on the local networks about atm skimming. Apparently these people come over to Australia supposedly for a ‘holiday’ but what they do is attach devices to atms all over and skim your details when you use that altered atm and then steal your money. Another hi-tech stealing is thru electronic pickpocketing, where a device is held near your bag and it manages to get your details off of your cards that have chips in them. These are really scary stuff because you can just be going about your daily routine and all of a sudden find out that someone has stolen from you.
