I was with a group of mum friends the other and while the kids where playing we were talking about who among the kids are learning to play an instrument. Some were but mainly piano and guitar, although some of the kids are said to want to learn to play the drums as well. One mum has even said that they are looking at pearl drums and percussion instruments because of this. I wonder what E will be interested in learning because I would want him to learn how to play an instrument or two.

storing stuff

From the different buildings that we’ve lived in, I noticed that a lot of people use the small space behind their basement parking slots as storage. You can usually find shipping/moving boxes, old furniture, old toys stuck behind that space to free up spaces in the flats. It would be nice to have like basement tiles even in that area to make that more usable and nicer to put things on.

The older you get the more you start to feel the aches and pains in your body. You are also easily tired, I think even if you are fit, as you grow older you start to feel the changes. There is this piano that is being sold but you would have to have it tuned and it also needs new piano hinge. Aside from the expense of having it fixed I don’t know how good of a condition it is in. I wonder if it will be a good buy? I’m probably better off buying a keyboard and then just upgrading in the future. I think I have to scour the net again for another option.

For us girls, there seems to be a never-ending quest for a good bag. I don’t really buy expensive brand named ones which I think are nice but unaffordable. But even with the bags that I have I seem too find that after a while it’s not the “right” one. It is hard to find the perfect one. I saw some northface bookbags the other day and they seemed nice but I think right now those are not what I need. I wonder if I will find one that will be a “treasure”.

hair maintenance

I had my hair digitally permed last December and I could not be more happier as it definitely is easier to get ready in the mornings. Before I would have to set time to blow-dry my hair either that or make sure I have a short hair style. The problem now though is getting good hair products to make sure my hair is soft and wavy and to make the curls last longer. I didn’t like the first brand that I bought and have switched to a new one recently, so far I feel it is more suitable for my hair. Let’s see if it really is.

harmony day

Harmony Day is coming up. It is celebrated every 21st of March. It’s a day to celebrate the cultural diversity here in Australia. The United Nation’s International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is also celebrated on the day.

From the Harmony Day website:

“The continuing message for Harmony Day in 2012 is that Everyone Belongs, which means all Australians are a welcome part of our country, regardless of their background. It’s a time to reflect on where Australia has come from, recognising the traditional owners of this land. It’s also about community participation, inclusiveness and respect – celebrating the different cultures that make Australia a great place to live.

DIAC supports a range of community events and activities held to celebrate Harmony Day by providing free promotional products.

Harmony Day began in 1999 and since then, a wide variety of groups including sports organisations, community groups, local, state and federal government agencies, schools and businesses have staged more than 25 000 Harmony Day events.

In 2012, we will celebrate the important role that sport plays in bringing together Australians from all walks of life to share in a common passion with the message Sport — play, engage, inspire. The aim is to encourage everyone, regardless of background, to participate in a sporting activity, increase understanding and to be inspired or inspire others.“

At E’s school, it is usually a mufti day and they come in orange shirts. They also usually donate gold coins and whatever is collected is donated to a certain charity. I think this is one event that should definitely be held every year especially in this country where you can see people from different backgrounds.

It is one of my dreams for my kids that they learn how to play instruments. I never learned how, actually my mom sent me to piano lessons one summer but then we didn’t have piano or even keyboards at home so I never got to pursue it. The thing though it is expensive to buy the instruments plus I don’t really have a background on it so I am kinda afraid to go into the stores to check out what’s available as I’m afraid that the salespeople will just sell me something that is expensive instead of getting a good deal. I have to find someone knowledgeable enough to help me out in finding a good deal. Maybe I should just buy guitar chords and then send him to his uncle to learn how to play the guitar as his uncle knows how. But between you and me I’d like them to learn piano first.

While doing the school drop-off and pick up or even when going to and from the after school activities of E, we always seem to see yard signs on the roads that we pass. The common signs we see are for sale signs, sold signs, for lease signs and yard/garage sale signs. Almost every weekend we see the garage sale signs and I have never been to one, perhaps because we are not looking for stuff to buy but maybe we can drop by one time just to see what “treasure” we can find.

It is sometimes a wonder why in some organizations it takes a while to get the id card when there are a lot of plastic card printers available that would make it easier to make the card on the spot. Not to mention it would be a plus for us since we don’t have to come back and claim the card. It is ok if they will mail the card to you but even then sometimes it takes months before you receive it. Sometimes we just have to live with it.
