potty training – day one

November 14th, 2007

Ok, potty training, I have been dreading this since day one. I started to try it a few months back with training diapers and bringing E to the bathroom and letting him sit on the toilet, reading him a book and some of the stuff that I’ve read on the subject but I’ve had no success. I decided that my best course of action would probably be to not put him in diapers (at least in the daytime) and coax him into peeing and pooing on the potty. I was glad to find out from marikit sis jojo that she too did the same thing with her daughter. Now I had to plan when to start doing that and thought that with my mom in town this November what better time to start. So today marks the first day of removing the diaper and guess what you have – a frustrated mom, a stubborn son, an amused grandmother and plenty of underwear to wash!

I hope day two will be much better! :p

open please

March 13th, 2007

Last night, I went a few steps ahead of E on our way to the bedroom and closed the door on him. Sure enough he knocked on the door, so I opened the door a bit to get him to tell me to open the door.

me: E, say “mommy, please open the door”
e: sure (nodding his head)
me: no, say “mommy, please open the door”
e: sure (nodding his head again)
me: (trying hard not to laugh) c’mon E say “mommy, please open the door”
e: sure ! (ichi’s inside the room laughing at me and E)
me: E!
e: open please!

So, what else can I do but open the door, kasi ipilit ba namang long sentence eh sa “open please” tapos na nga naman ang usapan. :P

daddy

February 12th, 2007

Today marks the 18th year since my dad passed away, he would have turned 71 on the 26th. In a recent episode of one of my favorite shows, Grey’s Anatomy, George’s father dies and there was this scene that went like this :

Cristina: There’s a club, a Dead Dads club and you can’t be in it until you’re in it. Well, you can try and understand. You can sympathize but until you feel that loss… My dad died when I was nine. George, I’m really sorry you had to join the club.

George: I… I don’t know how to… exist in a world where my dad doesn’t.

Cristina: Yeah… that never really changes.

I totally get the dialogue because you really struggle at the start but sooner or later you do learn to exist in a world without your dad. It’s just that for me it’s a different world. Every so often you are reminded that it is, on special occasions (like your debut, your wedding, the birth of your child), a scene on a television show, seeing my father-in-law play with E, and a lot of other things. Now I’m not taking anything away from my mom who’s great and really did her best to not let us feel our loss (imagine raising three kids on her own) but I think she would also agree with me on this. And today is one of those days.

I miss you daddy! I love you! – your princess.

a happy birthday

January 8th, 2007

E and I celebrated our birthdays last week. Since my birthday fell on a holiday here, we decided to spend the day at the Jurong Bird Park. E surely had a grand time checking out all the birds. He especially had fun at the all-star bird show enjoying all the birds that were being showcased but really clapped and shouted when he saw the mascots. It was also a treat because I got selected as one of the volunteers to hold the ring where the bird will pass through. I think E wondered why I left my seat and them and what I was doing that Ichi was able to take a few pics.

merry christmas

December 25th, 2006

Since we moved to Singapore last year and been remiss in being in touch with some family and friends, we decided to make a Christmas newsletter this year to let you guys know what’s been happening in our neck of the woods.

We started the year off with celebrating my birthday and E’s first birthday, both were simple and quiet celebrations. Although we did not have a big party for E as we initially planned, we had a very meaningful family celebration. E had his first taste of cake and he absolutely loved it. January was also the start of family coming over for a visit. We had tita bot, Ton and Adu that month, the in-laws in February, my brothers, aunt and mom in March and tita Bot, tita Bebs, uncle Lorenzo and family in April, and achi Mai in November. Good thing there are budget airlines nowadays. E has been enjoying these visits as he has more people to play with.

random things

December 14th, 2006

… Ichi’s business trip to Indonesia pushed thru end of November, he was there for one week. The bad thing though was for most of the trip he suffered from diarrhea.

… We were over at R & Tin‘s place last weekend to visit with them and see their cutie baby A. E was very happy playing with K (K & J’s lovely daughter) and the christmas tree which made us decide to finally buy a tree on the way home. E is very happy with his mamama (aka christmas tree), he even knows how to turn on the christmas lights. He even wants to open his gifts, I just hope that I can make him wait till christmas eve.

… Still have to complete our christmas shopping, there are still a few inaanaks to buy some gifts for and of course, Ichi and E. Will also be having a quiet christmas eve dinner at home with a few friends probably.

… On the video front, I thoroughly enjoyed watching My Girl and It Started With A Kiss (ISWAK), definitely recommended. I’m eagerly awaiting for the sequel of ISWAK which is said to be aired next year. I also watched Love Contract also starring Ariel Lin who is also the female lead of ISWAK, I liked the series for the most part but really hated the ending.

.. Want to watch : Silence, The Hospital, Love Is All Around, Super Rookie, Tokyo Juliet, Cloud Stairway (Cloud Stairs). Any more recommendations?

sick sick sick

September 22nd, 2006

This week has not been good for us. It started monday morning when little boy started vomitting so we brought him to the pedia and found out that he had stomach flu. The doctor gave us some meds for the vomitting and it seemed to work as e stopped vomitting, come tuesday he seemed better already. Unfortunately wednesday morning he started vomitting again, most of the fluids that we gave him all came back up. He kept vomitting and vomitting that we decided to bring him to the children’s emergency at KK for fear of e being dehydrated, he wasn’t. They gave him a syrup for the vomitting and had us give him glucose every 15 minutes to see if he’ll hold it down. Good thing he did or they’d have to admit him. So far things are better with e, hopefully he’ll be back to normal by weekend. Oh and did I mention that ichi had fever and I had fever/diarrhea yesterday? And Ton also has stomach flu today. Really not a good week.
