a day at the beach
It is starting to get warmer and it is really starting to feel like summer. Only a few more weeks to go and this will be our fourth summer here. I hope it will not be as hot as last year’s. After a cold and a little wet week, the sun shone and we decided to go to one of the nearby beaches. E was so excited when we told him what we were doing for the day. He just loves beaches, particularly the sand. He just had a blast playing on the sand and apparently S has the same penchant for it. After initially hesitating at the edge of the waters, she got over her “fear” very quickly and was running up and down the shore. It was a great day indeed.

It’s the start of term 4 for E and I still don’t feel like going back to the routine. Sometimes I feel like I’m the one going to school with the everyday drop-off and pick-up and having to supervise E’s homework routine. I think a lot of the parents especially the mums who do the drop-off/pick-up also feel that way, we all have the school break hangover. Plus it probably has something to do with being in the last quarter of the year. I definitely need to get my bearings right to be able to do what needs to be done for the rest of the year. There are some things on the to-do list that needs to be ticked that I have to get a move on.

Aside from the wedding itself, I’m sure our brothers are already thinking of after the wedding. Things like where they will live and start their married life. My brother-in-law would most likely continue living overseas but I’m still not sure if they will move into their own flat or continue living with their flatmates. Same goes for my brother. So if and when they do decide on their own flat or house then they would most probably start furnishing them as well. It’s a good thing there are a lot of furnishings (adirondack furniture anyone?) available from low-cost to real fancy ones. It would enable them to be within budget.

The senior class (that’s yr6) last year at E’s school, gifted the school with a screen projector (much like da lite screens) for the school hall. It has been very useful for the different events that the school has been celebrating like the recent French national day. This year instead of Mandarin they have been learning French and in line with that they decided to celebrate French National Day during the last day of Term2. It was really nice to see the kids speak and sing in French.

Mum is asking me do some layouts for her to bring back home for printing. She wants to print invitations for a gathering, 2012 calendars for Christmas presents and a group directory for her Monday group. And all should be done like yesterday. I don’t think I have the power and capability to do all those very quickly. I do have to have the cooperation of the kiddos and the hubby to get me enough “me” time to be able to finish it.

Carpets are really starting to be the bane of my existence. It is constantly stressing me out, mind you the carpet we have in our unit is not of the highest quality but still you constantly have to monitor what little girl is doing just so you can keep it stain free. I really would like to have floorboards or even laminate floorings the next time. I guess that’s one thing that is hard when renting you really have no choice, unless you choose to apply for those that have no carpets. Oh well, I guess you just have to make do with what you have.

With talks of weddings in our family, I can’t help but somehow browse through jewellery websites and look at rings. Not that I am buying one but I think I just got caught in the wedding fever bug. There are some really nice rings on these websites and you’re spoilt for choice. I do however enjoy browsing through the different wedding bands that they have particularly the titanium rings. This can be a good 10th wedding anniversary gift, hint hint to someone out there hahaha!

It’s never too early to think of your Christmas gift list. I know that the only way to beat the rush of holiday shopping is to start early which I never seem to be able to do. Aside from avoiding the stress of making sure you get everyone something, starting early can be also help you spread out the expense of buying all those presents. You can definitely get good items from the sales and you can even do lay-bys. Another way to go probably is to make your own presents and that definitely will be more special for the recipients. If you can’t though there are a number of websites and stores that sell handmade stuff. I saw some really nice metal bookmarks that I think I can get for the book lover in our family. Ok, off to browse some more.

A friend recently started her own design business specialising in personalised designs for notes and cards. Another friend was mentioning that I can also maybe give that a try since I dabble in digiscrapping and that can be something that is home-based so that won’t take me away from the kids. I think I still have a lot of work to do if I want to even start to think of delving into such business. Here’s wishing that I can really make that happen because that would definitely be a plus creatively and hopefully financially. In the meantime, I can only count on things like personal creations discount code to help save on some $$$ whenever I have something made.

One of the things I miss with living here is the food or maybe the “easy access” to it. In Manila, if you’re too tired to cook or if there’s no one to cook for you, it is very easy to just go out and buy meals. It was the same in Singapore with their 24 hour hawker centres. What gives Manila the edge would probably be the food delivery. A lot of the food chains have delivery some even 24/7. Restaurant delivery is also very common and I hear there is one or two companies that makes it all the more easy for you to order from menus of different restaurants. I just wish that there would more services like that here for times when you’re too tired or lazy to cook.
