fix it
There’s apparently some construction work being done at E’s school, they’re fixing something at the front playground. Don’t really know what it is but at least it’s nice to see that all proper care are being done. Saw some engine driven pumps (I don’t think they got those engine driven pumps at WeGotPumps.com) being used. The teacher told me though that it was really dusty the whole day, I hope they finish the work soon as it’s not good for the kids who are in the classes near the site.

So we’re a week into the new school year and so far all the kids are doing are settling back to being in school. The whole week they were still with their 2010 class and according to the newsletter they’ll be sorted into their 2011 class on Monday. And then he’ll be officially starting his year 1. I hope that he settles in quickly with the new class (and classmates) and continue to do good in school. In the meantime, textbook day will be on the 17th so need to send in the money to purchase the books (writing books etc) that they need for the school year.

I’ve watched American Idol I think from the second season onwards and along with that I was able to watch other versions as well (Australian Idol, Philippine Idol and Singapore Idol). One of the singers that I really liked was from Australian Idol, Jessica Mauboy, she ended up runner-up but it is fun to see that from Idol she was able to translate that to a singing career from being in a girl group to now being a solo act. And in interviews it seems like she still is the same sweet girl from Idol (inspite of her image/appearance being so different from then).
Here’s a youtube session interview:
and some videos of her performances on the youtube live sessions 2010:

We were in Canberra over the weekend and stayed at a friend’s house. They had a small front yard that had some landscape lights on the side of the footpath. They could also put some on the backyard which would look lovely turned on in the summer evenings. Too bad though they are looking to move to another place soon. Before the drive home, we passed by the Australian War Memorial and i accidentally left my sunnies in the toilets and when I came back for it, it was gone and it wasn’t turned in to the lost and found. Even though they were just cheap sunglasses, it still bothers me because I have had that pair for the past 3 years. Oh well, time to look for new ones.

Looking forward to the end of the school year, I get at least 6 weeks break from the normal routines. A break too with E’s after school activities. It’s a welcome break or else I might need some anti wrinkle serum soon or maybe I already do haha! But yes, it’s nice not to have to wake up early in the morning and do all the rush to school. I do have to find some things for him to do during the summer. A few playdates would probably be a good idea, hopefully his friends would not be away for the holidays.

It’s summer! And that means that it’s Christmas time here in Oz. But what a rainy start, the forecast seems to be looking like it will be a rainy December for us. I just hope that it lets up around Christmas so we can go to the beach or somewhere near. I do miss the Christmas in Manila, where I’m sure right about now there would be tons of parties scheduled with families, friends, batchmates, workmates, etc. And the food!! Around this time I miss bibingka and puto bumbong, can anyone fedex them to me haha! One good thing about not celebrating it in Manila is we won’t have to make sure we have some fat burner tucked away for all that food intake during the season, that’s not to say we won’t indulge in some sweets though. Happy Holidays!

We (me and a few kindy mums) brought the kids to the bowling alley last Tuesday to take advantage of their after school offer and boy did the kids enjoy their first bowling experience. It was funny because as soon as they sort of learned the concept, everyone adjusted the bowling ramp on their own to try to hit all the pins down. E ended up getting the top score after getting two strikes, he was really happy but then everyone forgot the scores when we handed then the arcade tokens after haha. I heard from the mums the next day that everyone asked when they could go again. Another bowling play date soon!

I was thinking of getting some Christmas stockings this year. We haven’t done this before but maybe we can start this tradition for the kids, just little gifts in their stockings to open on Christmas eve before going to their real presents on Christmas day. I hope to find some cute stockings, ones that are large enough to put little gifts in. Then next would be to think of great Christmas stocking stuffers. I’m thinking of maybe stickers and some Ben 10 figurines for E. But what about for the little girl? and Ichi too?

The grocery chains here have these self scan checkouts which are proving to be popular. Whenever I go to the grocery I always see a queue at these checkouts. I actually prefer to use these checkouts rather than the manned tills whenever I only have a few things to buy as its quicker. Sometimes the barcode scanner doesn’t work properly or pressure points at the bagging area is too sensitive then you have to stand there and wait for someone to scan their ID so you can finish scanning your other items. It does have a little learning curve at the start but then if you get the hang of it you’ll definitely save some time at the checkouts.

The X Factor Australia is currently airing and they’re down to 6 acts for this Sunday’s show. Though I don’t follow the show regularly, my favorite has to be Altiyan Childs. At first I was like why did Ronan pick him but his previous 3 performances really showed that he can be a rock star.
