A new chapter?

Yesterday, our new President was proclaimed – Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Cojuangco Aquino III. Although I wasn’t able to vote for him in the recent elections, our votes would have gone to him. I’m a little afraid for him though, with the HUGE expectation the people have of him to fix everything at once. So far he seems to be taking the right steps, we still have to see who he’ll put in his cabinet and what he’ll do with Vice-President Binay but I hope he does prove his mettle and bring about change for the next 6 years.

learning

Being a stay-at-home wife and mum for almost 9 years, I sometimes dream of going out and studying a course or something. There are a lot of online courses these days and some sites like http://www.bestonlinedegrees.org can point you to different online universities. For me I don’t think I’ll be able to go through studying again to gain another degree but maybe diploma courses or short courses will do, just to get to experience a whole different world to where I am now. Maybe …

finding time to eat

It is soooo easy to eat “comfort foods” these days just to get through a day or just to have the picker upper when your days are spent taking care of a baby and a 5 yr old. I know I should at least monitor the intakes but really right now I don’t care. With lunch on baby time, it’s usually something that is ready to cook, microwaveable or the likes. I have to get back to eating more “proper healthier food” if I don’t want to be looking for best diet pills for women anytime soon.

first buy

I’ve been a member of ebay for about a year now but I really haven’t bought anything until last week. Prior to that I did bid on a couple of items but being a “cheapskate” I didn’t win. Last week though I decided to look for some game cartridges for E’s leapster. They don’t sell it here anymore since they have the new version of the leapster along with the newer version games. I finally won on a bid and just because it’s not a hot item haha! It is at a good price and I think a best buy compared to ordering one from the US. I think I’ll be buying a couple more games for E.

haircuts

I think one of the things that we’ll be doing this weekend is to get E a quick trim. Good thing there are local salons/barber shops that offer low prices on haircuts as these can get quite expensive here. And that boys’ cuts are generally cheaper than girls’. When I still haven’t found an ok enough salon, I had to drag Ichi all the way to Homebush to get a haircut at the salon near the unit we were renting before. Now, I won’t have to as we managed to find a local Korean salon, hopefully when it’s my turn to get a cut I won’t regret it haha!

diva

One of nice things with technology and the internet these days is that we are able to watch news or shows from home. Home in this case being the Philippines. Aside from being able to catch up on news and what not, it’s nice to once in a while be able to watch teleseryes, sineseryes or whatever they call it nowadays. I admit I watch more of taiwanese or korean series online but sometimes there are pinoy series that catch my fancy. The other day I just started watching Diva which stars Regine Velasquez, Mark Anthony Fernandez and TJ Trinidad. It’s about Sampaguita (Regine) and her trials and journeys to become a singer ( I think haha, I’m only a few episodes in and it has been airing since March). You see she was born ugly but with a great voice but the Regine that was shown at the start of the series is a beautiful one so let’s see how she transforms from the ugly duckling to the swan. The comedy in the show is campy but for some reason I like it :)

Here’s part one of the first episode…

singing sensations

With the wonderful technology we have now, it is no wonder that a lot of people shooting to internet stardom. Whether it be for a funny thing they do, for a certain talent they have or just something that catches peoples fancy.  Recently, one that has been getting media attention is Lin Yu Chun, a Taiwanese boy that performed Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You pitch perfect. He is being referred to as the Taiwanese Susan Boyle, he is now in the US appearing on different talk shows.

Here he is with William Shatner doing Total Eclipse of the Heart ..

term break

I survived term 1 hahaha! One term down and many many more to go. I must say that E has adjusted pretty well to school and he actually likes to go (well so far, I haven’t had any days where he has told me that he doesn’t want to). I think right now what stresses me more is planning and preparing his lunch everyday. You might say that’s the easy part but hey I’m no goddess in the kitchen. Need to search for more quick and easy lunch recipes.

On homework, he’s keen to do them. I’m glad that right now he doesn’t think of it as “work”. I’m also amazed at how quickly he learns. From not being able to read at the start of term to being able to go through a short book by himself, all that under two months of being in school. He does have a tendency of losing focus though (if only you can give him something similar to a project management software just to make sure he does what he needs haha) and the teacher recognized that so she sat him beside someone who’s really focused on doing the work in class.

Last week we did parent interview with his teacher and am glad that so far we’ve only heard good things. He’s performing according to the level that they are expected at this stage. And also happy to hear that he’s good in math, he’s among the top in his class in that area. So far we’ve adopted a “relaxed” attitude towards his studies but I know that at some point we do have to push him to excel. Ichi has already slightly hinted with him that he has to go to university. Here’s hoping that he will thrive in school.

playdate

E recently received his first play date invite. It’s from one of his best buds from school and he’s all excited to go and have a bit of play with his friend this Friday.  Now, I don’t know what the play date dos and donts are for parents but here’s to more play dates for E :) I guess we really are starting to settle huh?!!

which car?

The place we moved to now is along the main road and some of our “neighbors” are car dealership. This one is right beside our building.
